Ernst Bacon (1898-1990)

Though known more for his art songs and larger orchestral and vocal works, Bacon's output for both solo and duo piano was extensive — with the compositions numbering in the hundreds and ranging in level from teaching pieces to works for the highly accomplished pianist. The style is imaginative, new, and exploratory, while rooted in clear tonality and rhythm. And as with other works, many of the piano pieces reveal Bacon's fondness for the American folk idiom.
